I believe there is no ‘one size fits all’. Working as an integrative psychotherapist helps me to use different psychotherapeutic modalities and create a unique therapeutic approach. This way of working helps me to focus on, and address, each client’s individual needs. I lean on the foundations of psychoanalytic and existential philosophies, offering clients a reflective and safe space for exploration and help them develop an understanding of themselves.
My personal experience gives me much insight into working with the issues of cross-cultural differences, and challenges faced by ethnic minorities. This includes the problems of second-generation children from immigrant families and the impact of transgenerational trauma.
As well as Koan, I work at The Woman’s Service, a specialist psychotherapy evening service for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, within OXLEAS NHS Foundation Trust (since March 2018).
In addition, I also work as an Honorary Psychotherapist within secondary care psychotherapy service at NELFT NHS foundation trust, providing psychodynamic psychotherapy to those referred for complex, non-psychotic psychological problems (since March 2017).
Fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and currently learning to speak Turkish language, my interest also lies in exploring the interplay of cultural heritage and belief, and its impact on the individual within a multicultural western society.
